Planning for these shows (DWLB’s first live performances ever) took about a year, from initial conversations with Henna Chou at Church Of The Friendly Ghost in August 2018 to gauge their interest, through the formal proposal to the NMASS festival later that year, to the actual shows. Then we went through our entire catalog, boiling everything we'd ever done down to four different potential setlists, ultimately choosing one that had elements of all four. From there it was a simple matter of finding simpatico folks to play with, figuring out how to rehearse with one live band member eleven hundred miles away, rehearsing over Skype, replacing our keyboardist not once but twice, booking additional gigs without publicizing them so as not to blow NMASS’ exclusive but giving us a chance to play more than the one show, making sure we had enough horseradish mustard, trusting in the Transitive Law of Rehearsals, coordinating Leyya and Paul's guest spots, device shopping at Target the day before the first show, finding the backstage vodka, and then the actual performances, elements of which we tweaked until a couple of minutes before we took the stage at Ground Floor Theater at 2 PM on July 7.

The bonus track "By putrefaction or combustion it is turned into another substance" is a mashup of all three performances of our improvised piece "Thomistic Illogic." The setlist was the same at all three shows, but we gave ourselves a wide berth for improvisation--so while this album is a representation of the complete live set, there's a lot of material we improvised that is not included here. More about that later.

In one way this is the quickest album we’ve ever done, in another way it’s the slowest. But we had a ball and the shows were all great, the evidence of which is before you now.
